Define your eyes with canthoplasty!
Many years ago, it was assumed that having
a double eyelid made the eyes look pretty. Hence, most double eyelid surgeries
did not consider the size and shape of an individual’s eyes and simply just
created a crease. However, nowadays, trends have started to change. So, it has
become more common to have epicanthoplasty, lateral canthoplasty or ptosis
correction with the double eyelid surgery.
Large and defined eyes can give off a
bright and lively impression. However, if the space in between the eyes is far
apart from one another, the eyes can look less clear and leave a bad impression
with others.
One factor that contributes in making the
eyes look smaller and far apart is the Mongolian folds. It’s a feature of the
eyes of South-East Asians and the upper eyelid covers the inner corner of the
eyes.
Individuals who possess an extreme form of
the Mongolian fold could have a harsh and angry looking expression. Also, after
a double eyelid surgery, the crease line could look more unnatural because of
it. In this case, a canthoplasty surgery will help to improve the Mongolian
fold.
Epicanthoplasty is the recommended method.
This surgery involves making an incision on the Mongolian fold to make the eyes
look larger and clearer. For the epicanthoplasty surgery, it is common to make
an incision on the inner section of the fold and suture the area. Therefore,
the scars are not visible from the outside. Also, a small incision is made on
the eyelid to remove unnecessary skin. This allows increasing the width both
horizontally and vertically making the eyes look larger overall.
Lateral canthoplasty can also help
individuals to achieve clearer looking eyes. This surgery is recommended to
those who have narrow horizontal width or for people with eyes that are close
together and so cannot get an epicanthoplasty. Likewise, it is recommended for
those who possess cat like eyes where the outer corner is lifted making them
look scary or for individuals who cannot make their eyes larger by just having
epicanthoplasty.
Compared to the past, eye plastic surgery
methods and devices have evolved making the risks of side effects low. However,
if epicanthoplasty is performed to an extreme level, it can expose a lot of the
red skin in the eyes. This will make the eyes look unnatural so it is very
important to keep a limit for beautiful, natural looking eyes.
