Sagging breasts due to childbirth and frequent weight loss
What are the
methods to correct sagging breasts due to childbirth and frequent weight loss?
Mrs. Jo (female, 37 years old), who is a housewife, is extremely worried
about her lax breasts that have lost elasticity after giving birth to her child
and going through frequent diet.
Ms. Jo said, “I’ve lost a lot of weight and lost a lot of volume on
my breasts, too at the same time. My droopy breasts stress me out whenever I
wear clothes. My friends recommended breast surgery, so I’m considering this
quite positively.”
Female breasts are consisted of mammary gland tissues and fats, and
therefore, weight loss may naturally lead to size reduction of the breasts. In
case of women who went through pregnancy and delivery, the elastic fibers of
the skin and breast tissues weaken, causing breasts to droop down and lose
volume.
‘Sagging breast revision’ is coming
into the limelight as the solution for women who have such concerns. The degree
of the droopiness is determined based on how much the nipple is located below
the mammary fold.
Ideal breasts have nipples located 4~5cm up from the mammary fold in 45
degree direction. Round or teardrop type implants can be options for the
revision. However, if the nipples are located 2~3cm way below from the mammary
folds, “mastopexy (breast lifting)” and “breast augmentation” may be necessary
at the same time.
If breast augmentation alone is performed without breast lifting on
sagging breasts, the upper breasts might protrude or double wrinkles may be formed,
causing the breasts to look unnatural. Therefore, it is very important to
consult a professional surgeon and find the exact surgery method that suits
each individual’s condition.
Also, before selecting the methods to correct sagging breasts, one must
sincerely check on the safety and after-care systems of the hospital in order
to minimize complication, infections and hematomas.
