Enlarged Male Breasts: The Reason why Men are Afraid to Expose Themselves
Among some men, there are individuals who
particularly have chests that are protruding. These men face difficulties when
wearing clothes and are conscious of other people’s views. Hence, they have bad
posture as they tend to hunch their shoulders to try and hide it. Also, due to
this, their confidence level is very low. As a result, they avoid going to
places like public bathhouses or swimming pools and try to keep their distance
from crowded areas. The restraints cause discomfort in their daily activities.
The condition is called gynecomastia and it
is commonly referred as enlarged male breasts. This can be caused by mammary
gland tissues that are especially developed or if the fat builds up on the
chest making it have the appearance of a women’s breast. Also, it can be caused
by the decrease of testosterone production but an increase in the production of
estrogen leading to the mammary gland tissues to be stimulated. It can be
mainly seen during puberty where there is an imbalance between the productions
of hormones and more estrogen is created but, in most cases it naturally goes
away as they become an adult. Other reasons include obesity, side effects of
steroids, medication abuse and etc.
Gynecomastia can quite easily be self-diagnosed.
An individual can look out for symptoms such as their chest maintaining its volume
even after losing weight or if they feel their chest bouncing up and down while
exercising. Additionally, they may be able to feel hard mammary glands tissues
around their nipple area.
Gynecomastia cannot be treated easily but
there are a few ways in which it can be prevented. Enlarged male breasts are
mainly caused by obesity and so to prevent it, an individual should not gain
excessive amount of weight. Therefore, regular exercise is strongly encouraged.
Having a healthy diet should also help by consuming less meat and greasy food
as well as avoiding drinking alcohol and smoking.
There are surgeries available for people
who feel great discomfort due to having enlarged male breasts. The method of
male breast reduction surgery is split into two, depending on the symptoms of
the gynecomastia. First of all, extracting the fat through liposuction is
recommended for individuals who have a low chest protrusion level and the cause
is due to obesity. Otherwise, if it is caused by the overdevelopment of the
mammary gland tissues, it can be treated by removing the mammary glands.
It has been advised by the medical staff at
WONJIN Beauty Medical Group, ‘surgery to treat gynecomastia should be performed
by a doctor with years of experience and knowledge gained from it. However, as
the development level of the mammary glands are different depending on the
person, it is best to have a consultation before going ahead with the surgery. Also,
continuous aftercare is crucial’. They also added, ‘food consumption is allowed
six hours after the surgery and patients should be careful not to put their
arms up too high. It is prohibited to sleep with their face down and anything
that can cause the patients to apply pressure to their arms must be avoided as
much as possible’.
